MADD RECOGNIZES STATE LAW ENFORCEMENT FOR ITS’ EFFORTS TO COMBAT DWI PROBLEMS IN NEW MEXICO
(ALBUQUERQUE, NM) –Mothers
Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) sponsored an awards ceremony in Albuquerque on
Saturday, January 10, 2004 at the Radisson Inn. During the ceremony, numerous
law enforcement agencies were presented with plaques recognizing their efforts
of addressing the DWI problem in New Mexico.
The New Mexico State Police received
awards for their efforts in the following districts: Gallup, Las Cruces and
Alamogordo. The Chief’s office also received an award for making DWI enforcement
one of its’ top priorities.
During the ceremony there were heartfelt
stories related by victims of DWI related incidents as well as an exceptional
presentation done by students from “YOUTH IN ACTION”.
“It was a great honor for our
department to receive the awards from MADD,” New Mexico State Police Deputy
Chief Faron Segotta said. “I am very proud of our officer’s hard
work as well as the work done by our brother agencies. But truly, we would not
be as successful as we are, without the continued support of civilian organizations
like MADD”.
DWI is an issue that affects us all
as citizens of New Mexico. We must all accept responsibility for addressing
this problem in our own neighborhoods. Some simple things can be done by each
of us to prevent DWI related crashes are; designate a sober driver; in the event
you have had too much to drink, call a cab; make sure bartenders are not serving
intoxicated persons and remember to not allow a drunk person to drive. If we
all work together, we can make a difference in the battle to fight DWI and prevent
any further loss of life in DWI crashes.
