Accomplishments

• MTPD Rocking and Rolling Toll Free, Unsecured Load Hotline 1-866-630-5623.
• Size and weight non-compliance rate has decreased during the period from 1992 to 2000.
• All shipments to the WIPP site have been inspected by CVSA Enhanced Certified MTPD personnel.
• MTPD successfully obtained grant funding from the Traffic Safety Bureau to fund overtime for Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) relating to CMV enforcement operations along Interstate 10 and Interstate 40.
• MTPD is participating nationally as 1 of only 6 states to pilot a risk-based approach to prioritize commercial vehicle crash issues for the United States Department of Transportation.
• MTPD CVSA driver/vehicle safety inspections increased by 8.5% (47,528 to 51,610).
• Inspector David Abeita was named International Grand Champion during the North American Inspector Championship held in August 2000.
• Commercial Motor Vehicle out-of-service rate has decreased 17% from 1997 to 2000.
• Driver out-of-service rate has decreased 30% from 1997 to 2000.
• MTPD drug interdiction efforts have seized 4510 pounds of marijuana, 1 pound of cocaine, and 1 methamphetamine lab.
• MTPD canine teams assisted various other law enforcement agencies in the seizure of 1308 pounds of marijuana, 2 ounces of heroin, 4.4 pounds of cocaine, and 5 pounds of methamphetamine.
