UPDATE: State Police and FBI Search for Shooting Suspect

Rio Arriba County – The New Mexico State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation along with assistance from the NM State Parks and NM Game and Fish Departments continue the search for Rex Michael Sherwood in the Dulce, Lumberton and Monero area.

On July 10, 2012, Jicarilla Tribal Police initiated a traffic stop on Mr. Sherwood. After a short pursuit Sherwood got out of his vehicle and began to fire an automatic weapon at officers. Sherwood fled into the mountains outside of Monero, east of Dulce, New Mexico.

Sherwood abandoned his vehicle and escaped on foot. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a white t-shirt, a blue jacket and a baseball cap.

The search will continue until Sherwood is located and captured. Anyone with any information is urged to call 911 or contact New Mexico State Police at (505)753-2277.

Sherwood is considered ARMED and EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
