San Juan County–On Saturday, May 25, 2013; a New Mexico State Police Officer working the Memorial Day weekend made three DWI arrests within the course of the same day in San Juan County.
State Police District 10 encompasses all of San Juan County.
The Officer made his 1st DWI arrest at 7:49 a.m. on US 64 mile post 31 on the Navajo Reservation. Charlotte Yazzie (40) of Waterflow NM was stopped for a seat belt violation. After she failed the battery of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST’s), she was arrested and charged with DWI on the Navajo Reservation. Yazzie refused a breath test.
At 9:30 a.m., the Officer made his 2nd DWI arrest on CR 6100 mile post 8. Bekis Francisco (30) of Kirtland NM was pulled over for roadways laned for traffic while exiting the back parking lot of the” Zia Liquor’s” liquor store. Francisco admitted to drinking the night prior and having a “shot” before leaving his house. Francisco refused to perform the SFST’s and he was charged with 4th DWI offense and because he had 3 children in the vehicle ages ranging from 4 to 8; he was also charged with child endangerment. Francisco also refused to take a breath test and a blood warrant was drawn up and signed from a District Court Judge to obtain Francisco’s blood alcohol level.
To top the day off, the same Officer made his 3rd DWI arrest at 4:37 p.m. at mile post 32 on US 64. and driving on a suspended revoked driver’s license; her breath results were above the .08 standard.
New Mexico State Police have ramped up their DWI efforts in San Juan County. Five DWI arrests were made during this Holiday weekend and four were arrested before 5 pm. State Police made a conscientious effort to make the San Juan County roadways safe for our traveling citizens over the 2013 Memorial Day weekend.
