Sierra County- On Saturday, September 14, 2013 at approximately 12:15 pm; State Police Officers were dispatched to Ash Canyon off State Road 51 in Sierra County. It was in regards to reports of a partially submerged vehicle in a muddy creek. The exact location was near the Elephant Butte Dam.
Officers arrived on scene and observed a red Toyota Sedan registered out of California. The location of the vehicle was approximately three quarters of a mile off SR 51 in a very rugged location.
Based on preliminary observations, it appears as the vehicle was swept off SR 51 yesterday during the torrential rains and flooding.
One adult deceased male subject was located in the vehicle. Officers proceeded to conduct a search in the general location to confirm there were no other deceased subjects.
Officers are currently working on identifying the subject. Upon positive identification and notification of next of kin, an update will be released with his information.
