San Juan County– On Monday, May 6, 2013 at 7:58 am; State Police arrested a San Juan County man for his 6th DWI offense. The traffic stop was initiated on US 64, mile post 32.
The vehicle stopped was a Ford passenger car for a registration violation. Contact with the driver was made. The driver was identified as Stevenson Benally (35) of Kirtland, NM.
Upon the initial contact with Benally, a DWI investigation followed.
Benally was given Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. After failing the Standardized Field Sobriety tests, Benally was arrested for DWI. Benally was booked into the San Juan County Detention Center on his charges.
Department of Motor Vehicle records showed this was Benally’s 6th DWI offense.
Ironically, Benally was arrested at the same location by the same officer for his 5th DWI offense on November 8, 2010.
State Police aggressively patrol New Mexico’s roadways looking for inebriated drivers. Taking drunk drivers off the road and protecting innocent motorists is the Department’s priority and mission.
