Over this past weekend, commercial vehicle driver, Henry Mencias from Los Angeles, California entered the Gallup Port of Entry and was selected for a random inspection. The inspection was performed by the Motor Transportation Officers and during the cargo inspection, seven brown “Office Max” boxes were found at the rear trailer doors (the cargo was produce in white boxes). One of the boxes was opened and inside was a bundle wrapped in clear cellophane wrap. The bundle was cut open and a green leafy substance was observed. The bundle emitted a strong odor of what appeared to be marijuana. The driver was arrested and the co-driver was released due to lack of evidence. The driver was booked into the local jail. A total of 19 bundles were removed from the trailer/boxes with an approximate weight of 469.5lbs., street value around $700,000.
The MTP continue to work to not only serve as the first line of defense against threats to homeland security but also to minimize personal injury, loss of life and property damage resulting from traffic collisions through enforcement and education.
