Valencia County — State Police are investigating an officer involved shooting on Lakeview Drive near Los Lunas where Valencia County Sheriff’s Department Deputies responded to a neighbor dispute.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. today, deputies arrived at the scene and one of the male subjects involved in the dispute began to run from the scene on foot. Deputies chased the male subject on foot. At some point during the foot chase, the subject picked up a metal pipe and swung it at the deputies.

One of the deputies fired at the subject and the subject went down. The subject was taken into custody and Life Guard was called in to fly the subject to the hospital.

The male subject who was shot by deputies has been identified as Gabriel Martinez (24) of Los Lunas. Martinez was pronounced deceased at UNMH a short time later as a result of the shooting.

The State Police Crime Scene Team was called in to process the scene. The investigation will continue through the night.
