SANTA FE- During a three day operation last week, the Motor Transportation Police Division conducted a size and weight operation at the Anthony Port of Entry in Dona Ana County. This operation conducted 432 commercial vehicle safety inspections, 110 citations were issued with 21 of those citations for overweight violations, along with that 7,787 weights were conducted (yes that number is correct). Of the commercial vehicles and drivers that were inspected, 55 vehicles and 13 drivers were removed from our highways due to serious safety violations. In addition to the inspection efforts there was one felony arrest for possession of a schedule 2 narcotic and two drivers that were placed out of service for 24 hours because they were found to have alcoholic beverages in their commercial vehicles.
These types of operations will continue throughout the state in an effort to ensure the safe and legal operation of commercial motor vehicles in the State of New Mexico.
