Moriarty Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash on Interstate 40

Torrance County– At approximately 7:00 a.m. this morning, State Police Officers responded to the scene of a commercial motor vehicle versus motorcycle crash, on I-40 west of Moriarty, New Mexico.Officers arrived on scene and found a motorcycle underneath the front passenger side of a semi. The driver of the motorcycle has been identified as John Hamilton (59) of Moriarty.

According to witnesses, the motorcycle was attempting to merge onto I-40 westbound at the 194 on-ramp when the crash occurred. Mr. Hamilton was thrown from the motorcycle during the crash and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Mr. Hamilton was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The crash investigation is ongoing.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs was a contributing factor in the crash.
