Great Opportunity in Law Enforcement for Veterans

State of New Mexico
Department of Public Safety

SANTA FE- The Department of Public Safety Cabinet Secretary, Gorden Eden will be meeting with the press on Thursday July 26th at 10:30 a.m. at the DPS Headquarters, 4491 Cerrillos Road, Santa Fe.

At a recent board meeting the Law Enforcement Academy has changed the certification by waiver rule making it easier for military personnel with Military Police training to receive their certification from the state to become a law enforcement officer. This will allow local police and sheriff’s department’s greater flexibility in hiring our veterans and in hiring police officers from other states who want to work in New Mexico. This will beneficial to both the returning vet and law enforcement agencies all over the state.

Eden, “This is part of a commitment we made to our state agencies to help fill their ranks with qualified law enforcement officers.”
