SANTA FE-The prescription drug take-back box in the Department of Public Safety’s Special Investigation Division’s office is doing its job. In the past five weeks, 95 pounds of unwanted medications were dropped off at the facility located in the SID office at 6301 Indian School Road, Suite 310.
Division Director Bill Hubbard said, “People are starting to get into the habit that once they are done with a prescription, it’s time to get the pills out of the house. As more and more people become aware of the permanent take-back box in our office the amount of pills collected each month should climb.”
Also this Saturday, September 29th from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., federal and local law enforcement agencies will join together by holding a National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day around the state. To find a location near you log on to www.dea.gov , click on the “Got Drugs?” icon and follow the links to a database where they enter their zip code to find a drop off spot.
The service is free and anonymous.
