Santa Fe County- The vehicle began to actively and persistently flee the officer as he attempted to pull the vehicle over. A dangerous pursuit ensued. At times, speeds reached up to 87 miles per hour in a residential neighborhood. In order to successfully stop this pursuit and to prevent injury or death to innocent motorists; the officer conducted a pursuit intervention technique maneuver (PIT).
Upon successful implementation, the vehicle came to a stop. The officer exited his police vehicle to make contact with the occupants. While doing so, the sedan began to aggressively and immediately back towards the officer. Based upon evidence on the suspect vehicle, it was apparent; the suspect vehicle struck the police vehicle in the left front driver’s side area.
Multiple shots were fired at the driver of the vehicle, Jeanette Anaya, resulting in her death.
